Lamp

I created this sculpture in my Color Systems class. The concept I explored was the healing power of color, inspired by a color therapist that came to speak to our class. I chose the brillant orange color because it has significant healing powers for myself, because it is not only bold and exciting but somehow quite calming. The light bulbs are connected with long cords which I painted red to mimic red thread, which I learned from my research is a commonly used healing device in several cultures.
Medium: lights, acrylic and acetate.

Coptic Journal

This is a journal I made with a coptic stitch. The covers have a magazine page and orange paper.

Letterpress Protest Book

We created a Dada poem which we then separated into phrases and illustrated. ( I switched my words up a little. ) The color images are printed on a laser printer. The words and black icons are printed on a letterpress. The typefaces are as they appeared in the newspaper they were clipped from.

Letterpress Postcards

We typeset four postcards illustrating a poem by Mary Oliver. The postcards had to have: one word, one sentence, the whole poem, and one combining elements of word and image.

Pastel Drawings

I drew these works in my drawing 2 class in 2006.
We recreated a master artwork of our choice. In the second drawing we did a self portrait in the same style and pose as the master artwork.

Our final project was open ended. I chose to draw a photograph I took in Peru that year.

A live model study

Hotel Valencia

I worked at Taylor West Advertising in San Antonio, TX for the summer of 2006. I was assigned to take pictures at Hotel Valencia which I then compiled into a book that would be presented as a gift to the hotel to thank them for being a client and to show ways in which Taylor West could expand their advertising. This was my first experience in photo direction and taking photos for a client. My intent was to capture the details of the hotel that made it stand out as a both luxurious and representative of San Antonio's rich visual culture.

Zoo Posters

For this project we made two posters for display at the zoo. In the first poster observed an animal at the zoo and recorded something about its activity. In the second poster we researched the animal and found a relative topic that had an affect on the activity described in the first poster.

Pro-choice poster

We created a character combining two descriptive words. I chose hillbilly and bigfoot. We created a poster with a message or an environment for our character. Mine became a pro-choice poster.
